Attempt to get in Private Eye scuppered, film at eleven
I've just realised that I should have called this Fistful entry 'Lithuania is the new Delaware' and seen if I could have got it in Private Eye's 'Neophiliacs' column.

One of my dreams is to end up in Pseuds Corner, which might well be realised given that I'm writing quite a bit for Sight & Sound. One of my colleagues ended up there a couple of years ago, but instead of skulking into a corner in shame he photocopied the column, blew it up to A3, highlighted his name and stuck it on the outside of his door.
I have obliquely been in Pseud's Corner actually - one of our jobs at work is putting train company information on Ceefax. One day, we got a message from a company (Wessex Trains, IIRC) that said there were delays 'due to a bovine incursion' (or 'cows on the line' in plain English) and we decided to put it on Ceefax like that rather than the more usual version. Someone obviously noticed and two weeks later it was in Private Eye.
