I think it was a very unedifying spectacle all around – and to add to the futility of it, someone told me he was caught speeding very soon after the offence that led to this, and lost his licence anyway!

I agree with your analysis Nick and I think a Lib Dem hold is the most likely result with the right candidate, but I regard Huhne’s offence and behaviour about as bad as it could be. Right up until last week he was maintaining his innocence; he has added lie after lie on to the offence itselfwhich was bad enough. He should have just put his hands up straight away and faced the consequences.
