Our view of the monarchy – ‘our’ here meaning almost everyone in the Commonwealth who’s still alive – has been massively skewed by Edward VIII’s abdication, George V’s early death, and his relatively late (for the time) first sprogging. So we got to duck the relevant question for 60 years.
