I’m at the Loch Ness Youth Hostel (in Alltsigh, just north of Invermoriston) having just about completed two days on the Great Glen Way – I’m going to take the path into Invermoriston this evening after checking in here, so I can get a slightly quicker start in the morning on the road, as I’ve got two long, but mainly flat, days ahead of me. I’m off to Laggan tomorrow, and then into Fort William on Sunday evening. Luckily, I’ve got two days off after that – I decided I’d rather push hard and have the longer break, rather than splitting the stretch into Fort William into two.

The Great Glen is rather nice, especially as it’s not raining today like it did yesterday, and I’m also going over nicer tracks than the forestry roads that made up a lot of the route yesterday – they were all sorts of fun as weather and passing trucks have worn them away to a point where only the sharpest and hardest stones remain on the path, making it not too pleasant. Added to the fact that most of the route takes you away from the Glen, and you only get a sight of it later in the day, and it wasn’t the pleasant change from road walking I was hoping for. Today’s been rather nice, though, as I’ve been tracking through the forests to the side of Loch Ness, and being rewarded with amazing views when there’s a parting in the trees.

Now I just have to wait for the hostel reception to open up and I can go into Invermoriston in search of food and beer. Well, it is Friday night…
